As a kid, we learned that things will always change. And we also learned, with that mentality, dreams change. We would say, “One day, I want to grow up to be an Astronaut!” Then the next day we would say, “I want to grow up to be a Firefighter!”. But for that one day we wanted to be an Astronaut, we went at it as hard as we could. We did everything in our power and in our imagination to come up with ways to execute becoming an Astronaut. Then when we didn’t want to be an Astronaut anymore, we put all our effort and energy into becoming a Firefighter.
That process doesn’t change as we get older. Sure, for most of us, we never became that Astronaut or that Firefighter. But the fact we never gave up on what interested us, led us to discover what we really wanted. And to me, that’s the purest example of it never being about where you end up, but what it took to get there. And you can apply this to a multitude of your life’s aspects.
So I guess what i’m trying to say is to never give up on what you love or what interests you. And if it doesn’t work out, then keep going. Don’t be afraid to try something new. Because you just might end up loving it. For the most part, life will never go according to plan. But if you learn how to adapt to change, I’m sure you’ll find everything you’re looking for, even if you don’t know what it is yet.
