I want to look at this idea of having a hobby. I’ve said in a few of my past posts that I have so many hobbies that I’d like to be ambitious about, but I don’t have enough time to pursue them all. And because of the fact that I would try to pursue them all, I could only hope to become mediocre at them. I’m sick of mediocrity. I’m sick of being an okay photographer. I’m sick of being an average musician. I’m sick of being a whatever basketball player. I’m sick of being an ordinary social media user. I don’t want to settle for mediocrity. I want to become great.
If you take a look at the great and successful people in this world, it’s hard to find someone who’s been said to, “do it all”. You find that these immensely successful people are known for one thing. And they use this “one thing” to describe themselves towards the world. They could be a professional athlete, a well renown musician, a popular comedian, or even a talented photographer. And whatever this one thing is, this is how the rest of the world associates these people as. The point is that they’ve chosen something they love, gave it their all, and that’s what they’re known for. Sure, they probably had other interests growing up, but they found the one or maybe two things that motivated them more than anything, and proceded to learn all they could about it.
I’ve done my fair time at trying new things. And I’ve found a few things that I really want to pursue. I’ve realized that I’ve always tried to do too much. Now it’s time for me to focus on the things that are more important than others. And in order for me to do that, I need to cut out the things that are just taking away the little time I have for a hobby. Prioritization is not only key to your success as a working and learning being, but also the key to greater joy. And for me, the prioritization of my interests is going to help me achieve my goals and dreams. I’m going to get myself out of this rut. I’m going to put in the work. I will succeed.
